Ki
Arts - specializes in Japanese-style fine furniture,
interiors, and garden structures employing traditional
Japanese woodworking techniques. This family-run business
was started in 1985 by Japanese master craftsman Hiroshi
Sakaguchi and his wife Ann Gerber Sakaguchi. Ki, pronounced
"key," means "wood" in Japanese. The
basis of all Ki Arts' woodworking is the traditional Japanese
joinery system. Interiors and garden structures are first
"pre-fabbed" at the Ki Arts workshop where the
lumber is shaped, the joints fashioned, and the final
board surfaces hand-planed. The structural parts are then
transported to the site and assembled. This gives Ki Arts
the flexibility to work anywhere in the world. Fine furniture
is constructed at the Ki Arts workshop and can be delivered
to any location.
